Water Conservation Programs

Take advantage of these programs to save money on your water bill, conserve water, and help create jobs for local contractors!

In 2007, a Stage I Water Shortage was declared for the City of Grover Beach based on municipal planning guidelines designated when rainfall is less than 65 percent of normal for a year. In 2009, the City Council declared a Stage II Water Shortage which provided an additional, heightened sense of awareness of the need to conserve our water resources.

The current conservation measures remain voluntary. The following three programs will help to conserve water and reduce the chance of the City moving to a Stage III Water Shortage.

  1. Water-Efficient Washing Machine Rebate Program
  2. Rebate Schedule:
Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) Tier Rebate Amount
    Tier 2
    $100
    Tier 3
    $150
Please see the Water Efficient Washing Machine Rebate Program Terms and Conditions for details regarding this program. Also note that the City’s water conservation rebate would be in addition to energy rebates given by PG&E.

  3. "Cash for Grass" Rebate Program
  4. Rebate Schedule:
    • $0.50 per square foot of grass removed and replaced with drought tolerant landscaping
    • Minimum of 100 square feet of existing, maintained lawn area.
    • Maximum rebate of $750
Please see the Cash for Grass Rebate Program Terms and Conditions for details regarding this program.

  5. Smart Irrigation Controller and Sensor Rebate Program
  6. This Program provides rebates for three types of controllers and sensors:
  7. Smart Irrigation Controllers help to reduce water and maximize water efficiency by continuously monitoring such things as solar radiation, temperature, and humidity to automatically adjust watering schedules each day.
  8. Rain Sensors automatically prevent sprinklers from coming on during or after rainfall.
  9. Soil Moisture Sensors measure actual soil moisture levels and can reduce water use by up to 30%. If soil is at or above a present level, the sensor will prevent the irrigation system from operating and eliminate unnecessary watering.
  10. Rebate Schedule:
Type of Controller or Sensor Rebate Amount
    Smart Irrigation Controller
    $50
    Rain Sensor (wired)
    $4
    Rain Sensor (wireless)
    $10
    Soil Moisture Sensor
    $10
Please see the Smart Irrigation Controller and Sensor Rebate Program Terms and Conditions for details regarding this program.
