Climate

Grover Beach residents and visitors enjoy a mild, mediterranean climate with cool summers and an average rainfall of 20 inches. Year-round recreational opportunities are offered in and around Grover Beach such as hiking on the dunes, fishing, clamming, golfing, horseback riding, wine tasting, and off-road vehicle riding.

The beach entrance to the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area is located just off Highway 1 at the end of West Grand Avenue in Grover Beach (just one block from the Amtrak Station). Enjoy the beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline with a drive along white sand dunes, or take a walk on the Beach Boardwalk that meanders through the dunes and Monarch Butterfly Preserve between Grover Beach and Pismo Beach. Or enjoy the nine-hole golf course, open seven days week from sunrise to sunset, also located at the beach entrance at the end of West Grand Avenue.

Grover Beach activities and festivals attract the entire family, and community parks are also available for picnics and barbeques:

  • Spring Garden Tours - Tour beautifully manicured private gardens and participate in the plant exchange. Demonstrating artists and Master Gardeners are scheduled to be on site at various gardens. Admission is free.

  • The City hosts a Free Summer Concert Series at the Ramona Garden Park each year from June - September.

  • The City of Grover Beach and Grover Beach Chamber of Commerce host the Stone Soup Ethnic Music Faire each summer at the Ramona Garden Park.

This event features a 5K / 10K Dune Run Run, and food and craft booths with homemade items and ethnic foods fill Ramona Garden Park and spill out onto the street, along with the sounds of Latin, African, Australian, Scottish, jazz and country-western music. Dancing in the streets is encouraged!

  • Take a look at the Event Calendar for current information.

Fall and winter season reminder! This is typically the rainy season for the Central Coast.

  • Please remember to get "drain holes" cleared around your business or residence. Areas like roof gutters, patio drains, and other similar drainage areas should be completely free of obstructions.

  • If you notice a problem with a nearby street gutter that is not free of obstructions, please contact the City with a phone call or note marked to the attention of our Public Works crew. We'll be sure to get it taken care of in short order!

Grover Beach businesses and residents are cautioned to be better prepared for potential flooding by placing sandbags along their property.

Empty sandbags may be purchased at: Miner's Hardware Store or Farm Supply in Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande. In case of an emergency, empty sandbags may be obtained at either the Grover Beach Police Department located at 711 Rockaway Avenue or the Grover Beach Fire Department, at 701 Rockaway Avenue.

Sand for the sandbags may be obtained at the Grover Beach Corporation Yard, 1150 Farroll Rd. or from excess sand blown onto the streets along West Grand Avenue in Grover Beach and also on Pier Avenue (main entryways to Pismo State Beach, as well as the nearby side streets), west of Hwy One. Do not gather sand directly from the beach!

If you are loading sandbags along the street, please be cautious! Make sure the hazard lights on your vehicle are on, close vehicle doors, and be observant of oncoming traffic or other activity in the area. For further weather information:
