Juvenile Diversion Program

kids.gif - 13424 BytesThe Diversion Program is a community-based alternative for juvenile offenders of minor crimes. The youth are referred to a panel of community representatives who hear each case, assign consequences, and subsequently verify completion.

The Diversion Panel creates a contract with the juvenile compelling him/her to complete specific tasks, such as:

  • community service work
  • acceptable school behavior and grade achievement
  • restitution, if applicable, and
  • other requirements as appropriate to meet individual case needs.
  • The contract is designed to develop an awareness of consequences resulting from the commission of a crime. Through mentoring and individual attention, selected program participants ensure that the involved minors successfully complete their contracts and learn alternatives to committing crimes. All appropriate community resources are offered to the juveniles and their parents.

The program is administered entirely by Specialist Reserve Bob Stanley and four other community volunteers. Working together with Detectives, they form a team working with "at risk" students at our local elementary schools.

Questions regarding the program should be referred to Administrative Reserve Bob Stanley at (805) 473-4511 or (805) 473-4516.
