Notice is hereby given that a General Municipal Election will be held in the City of Grover Beach, on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 for the following Officers:
The following qualified candidates are running for City Council
(Please note: the names and ballot designations are listed below in the order as they will appear on the November 4, 2008 ballot):
For Directly-elected Mayor (two-year term):
- John P. Shoals, Council Member
- Chuck Ashton, City Council Member
For two (2) seats on the City Council (four-year terms):
- Liz Doukas, Court Reporter
- Debbie Peterson, Realtor
- Karen Bright, Appointed Incumbent

The Nomination Period for Council Candidates was Monday, July 14, 2008 - Friday, August 8, 2008. (This period was extended to to Wednesday, August 13, for non-incumbents only, when an incumbent fails to submit nomination papers or fails to qualify as a candidate.)
Requirements for Running for a Seat on the City Council: A Candidate must live in Grover Beach and be a registered voter of the City. Please see: Press Release.
To Be a Qualified City Council Candidate: If you are interested in running for an open seat on the Grover Beach City Council, please schedule an appointment to meet with the City Clerk during regular business hours to learn more about the filing requirements, receive candidate nomination papers, and other necessary documents by calling (805) 473-4567 or sending an e-mail to dmcmahon@grover.org

Political Campaign Sign Regulations in 2008 - There are specific City regulations regarding campaign signs which limit the time period signs may be posted, the size and number of signs permitted on each property, and provide the City with enforcement authority under certain circumstances.

Voter Registration: To be eligible to vote for candidates and issues on the November 4, 2008 ballot, you must be registered to vote no later than Monday, October 20, 2008. For more information on voter registration or to obtain a Vote by Mail Ballot:
Vote by Mail Ballots: The first day Vote by Mail Ballots will be available is Monday, October 6, 2008. The last day to mail in a Vote by Mail Ballot is Tuesday, October 28, 2008 or you may personally deliver it to the County Clerk-Recorder’s Office or any polling location in the County by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. To ensure that ballots are received in time to be counted, the County recommends voters not to mail their ballots after the Friday prior to Election Day. (Note: voters may authorize a designated family member to return the voted ballot to any polling place in the County or to the County Clerk-Recorder's Office.)
