Help Wanted! Recreational Independent Contract Instructors Needed

• Do you have a talent, hobby or special skill that you would like to share with others? The Grover Beach Parks and Recreation Department currently has openings for Independent Contract Instructors. The Department is always looking for new and creative recreational opportunities to provide to our citizens. Be your own boss and let us help.

  If you are interested, please review the Independent Contract Instructor Handbook, complete the application form, and submit the application form in person directly to the Parks and Recreation Department at Grover Beach City Hall (see application form).

• 22nd Annual Dune Run Run – Saturday, August 28th the run/walk starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Ramona Garden Park. Day of registration begins at 8:00 a.m. This is a challenging and diverse course, along the beautiful coastline that includes a 5K Walk, 5K Run, and 10K Run. The Dune Run-Run is a cross country course through the streets of Grover Beach, the beach boardwalk, hard packed sand and the soft sand dunes. Awards are given in all age categories! • 11th Annual Cal Poly Basketball Clinic
  Date: October (date to be determined)
  Time: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.

  Location: Mentone Basketball Court, corner of Mentone and 14th Street
  This popular event, with instruction by the Cal Poly Mustangs Women's Basketball Team, will offer boys and girls in grades 8 and below pointers and drills to improve their game skills. All equipment is provided. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and proper shoes.
  

• Halloween Activities & Carved Pumpkin Contest

  The parade begins at 16th Street and finishes at the Ramona Garden Park Center, 993 Ramona Avenue. This is one of the only daytime parades in San Luis Obispo County!   This is a Special Holiday Workshop for kids and adults of all ages. Learn how to create beautiful holiday votives using glass beads and stained glass; mosaic pottery using stone, ceramic and glass. Please bring a sack lunch to the workshop.

  This workshop will present lessons in proper behavior for all occasions. Participants will receive guidance in a variety of topics including table manners, social etiquette, ordering food in a restaurant, entertainment at home, ceremonial occasions and written communication.

  • Whale Tail Grants Program
    The California Coastal Commission sponsors a program that distributes funds from the sale of Whale Tail License Plates. Grants support programs that teach California children and the general public to value and take action to improve the health of the state's marine and coastal resources. Adopt-A-Beach programs, California Coastal Cleanup Day, as well as other beach maintenance and coastal habitat restoration projects that have an educational component, are also eligible for these grants.   • South County Skate Park The Skate Park is located at 1750 Ramona Avenue (between 16th Street and Oak Park Boulevard) in Grover Beach. A variety of skating features in this 13,234 square foot facility make it a fun skating adventure for children and adults alike!   Volunteer Opportunities

  The Grover Beach Parks and Recreation Department is currently seeking volunteers to assist with programs and special events held throughout the year. Volunteer opportunities include sport programs, office work, special event support, and much more. Help is needed both before and after events. Students needing community service hours are also welcome to participate as volunteers at any of the Department's special events.

  Do you have a talent you would like to share? Instructors are needed to teach classes for older adults, teens, and youth. Topics and schedules can be tailored to meet your individual availability.
