The Citizen Oversight Committee is a five-member advisory committee whose task is to review an annual report that is prepared by the City. This annual report includes a summary of expenditures from revenue generated from the Transactions and Use Tax and budgeted expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year.
The Committee is then required to provide a report regarding these expenditures to the City Council
no later than six months following the close of the fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following year.
The City Council has requested that the Committee meet more often than the minimum requirement of once per year to have an opportunity to monitor the rate of revenue generated from the sales tax and expenditures made in concurrence with the City's adopted annual expenditure plan. In the event of an economic downturn or, conversely, if more revenue is generated than anticipated, the Committee’s insight could prove helpful to the City Council.
