The 2000 Census of Population and Housing identified Grover Beach with 13,067 residents. This is a 12.1% increase above the City's 1990 total population of 11,656.

Demographic information:
The average age of San Luis Obispo County residents in 1990 was 33.3. Age characteristics for the City of Grover Beach from the 2000 Census are not yet available; however, the 1990 Census provided the following age characteristics: 25.7% were 17 years or less, 62.1% were between 18 to 64 years, and 12.2% were 65 years and over.

Ethnic characteristics (demographics) of Grover Beach are as follows: 79.8% are white, 1% are black, 1.7% are American Indian/Eskimo/Aleutian, 3.7% are Asian/Pacific Islander, 0.3% are Native Hawaiian andOther Pacific Islander, 9.2% are Other, and 4.2% are two or more races. Of the population total, 22.5% are Hispanic or Latino; however, population figures were distributed within the total population figures by race for the community.

In 1990, the Hispanic population throughout San Luis Obispo County was over 13% of the County's total population, making the Hispanic community the largest minority group in the County. Each year, the City of Grover Beach and Grover Beach Chamber of Commerce co-sponsor an Ethnic Street Faire and Stone Soup Festival to celebrate the community's ethnic and cultural diversity.

Education Opportunities:
College Level:

  • California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and
  • Cuesta Community College (a Community College of the State system). In addition, a new Cuesta College satellite campus has opened in the North County.
  • San Luis Obispo County residents also attend Allan Hancock College (another Community College) in Santa Maria, which is in Santa Barbara County.
  • Chapman University, LaVerne University, and University of Redlands also provide college courses at satellite locations throughout San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties.
