Welcome to New City Staff

News from the Office of the Personnel Manager/City Clerk

The office of the Personnel Manager/City Clerk was headed by Pat Perez for more than twenty years. However, Pat left the City in September for a position with the City of Santa Maria. City staff misses Pat and her expertise very much. The vacancy in the position of Personnel Manager/City Clerk was finally filled by Michelle Greene in April, but in the interim, Caroline deLlamas, retired City Clerk from the City of Cerritos, served five months as acting City Clerk for the City.

The Personnel Manager/City Clerk vacancy was only one of the more than twenty that came up during the 2000-2001 fiscal year. The turnover resulted in the appointment of personnel in the following departments:

  • Finance Department:
    Director and Assistant Director
  • Community Development Department:
    Director and Assistant Director
  • Public Works:
    Part-time Building Maintenance Worker
  • Parks and Recreation:
    Recreation Coordinator
  • Police Department:
    Administrative Secretary
Three Police Officers and a Reserve Officer
    Three Part-time Dispatchers
  • Fire Department:
    Seven Volunteer Firefighters

The recruitment for these positions kept staff very busy all year with advertising positions, reviewing applications, conducting testing and interviews, and orienting new employees. We welcome all our new employees and are excited to have so many qualified professionals onboard.

On the City Clerk side of the Department's duties, staff conducted a municipal election which resulted in the reelection of Council Members Dee Santos and Ron Arnoldsen, and the seating of Steve Lieberman as a first-time Council Member.

At this time the new Personnel Manager/City Clerk and existing department staff are adjusting to the many changes that have occurred internally and are preparing for the new 2001-2002 fiscal year. When the dust settles, staff hopes to work on improving the office's records management system, conduct an in-depth review of the City's Municipal Code, and engage in professional training workshops. Our goal is to make our operations more efficient so that we may continue to bring a high level of service to the community, City Council, and fellow staff.
