The Parks and Recreation Department is offering several new as well as returning classes, events, and activities. Detailed information and sign-up registration forms may be found in the Winter/Spring 2004 Activity Guide available at City Hall. Activities for youth include our ever-popular Tiny Tots Program, Performing Arts, Shooting Stars Dance, and Theatre Programs, Tennis, Beginning Piano, Etiquette, and, back for a second year, the Violin Instruction Program co-sponsored by the San Luis Obispo Symphony. New and fun activities for children include Cheerleading for grades 1st through 6th, and Spring Break Hobby Discovery Camp for ages 10 to 14. Classes for adults or parent/child together include a Japanese Language Class and Hulacise, a hula dance exercise program. New classes for children and parents include Calligraphy, and Furniture Finishing. All ages are welcome to sign up for Table Tennis, Dog Obedience, Square Dancing, Basic Photography, and Cake Decorating. New classes include Salsa and Swing Dance Lessons and Workshops for Seniors regarding changes in Medicare, long-term care, and protecting assets. New classes for adults include Beginning Piano for ages 18 and older, Furniture Finishing, and a Panoramic Egg Demo and Workshop just in time for Easter. The Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to once again offer the Emeritus Program through a continuing partnership with Cuesta Community College. These classes offered for mature adults are short-term, non-credit, and tuition-free! Current offerings include Great Literature: Selected Readings, Art: Painting and Oil Painting, Composing Your Life Story, and Finance: Wills and Trusts. Returning for a third season is the Co-ed Adult Volleyball League co-sponsored with the City of Pismo Beach. A mandatory manager's meeting will be held on Monday, February 23, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. in the Parks and Recreation Office, with play beginning Mondays, March 8th through May 10th. Another favorite returning for its tenth year is the Annual Table Tennis Tournament with specific date and times to be determined. Sports specialties highlighted for the summer will include the second season of the Co-ed Adult Kickball League beginning in July, and the Nothing But Net 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament scheduled for July 10, 2004. Fun events for the entire family include the 15th Annual Family Egg Hunt & Festival on Saturday, April 10th, co-sponsored with the Arroyo Grande Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department; a Mother's Day Dance on Friday, May 7th, co-sponsored with Pismo Beach Recreation Division; a Symphony Community Concert on Friday, May 21st, presented in partnership with the San Luis Obispo Symphony and Youth Strings Program; and the 2004 Spring Garden Tour and Plant Exchange scheduled for Sunday, June 6th. We're already working on exciting additions to our summer programming and are always on the lookout for fun, new classes and events for all ages.
