SLOW DOWN AND RELAX--AUTO SAFETY

The members of the Grover Beach Police Department would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy, and safe holiday, and we would like to remind everyone to slow down, relax and drive carefully. During the sometimes hectic holiday season, we may forgo safety for a busy schedule.

During the past year, the Grover Beach Police Department has seen a marked increase in the number of hazardous citations issued. There has been a 224% increase in speeding citations issued, up from 146 in 2002 to over 475 in 2003, and still counting. Overall, there has been a 59% increase in hazardous citations, up from 818 in 2002 to over 1200 thus far in 2003. Traffic collisions are down 10% from last year. During 2003, the Department has conducted several DUI Checkpoints and Pedestrian Decoy Programs, with more planned for the future. DUI arrests are up 7% from last year. Take a few extra minutes and slow down so that you are not a part of next year's statistics!
