Our community has so much going for it – the beach, great weather, spectacular views, the dunes, 1.5 million visitors annually (yes – that's right – 1.5 million!) and a City Council and community that both want to make more happen to take advantage of our many assets.
So what are we doing at City Hall to help make things happen?
- More money, per capita, has been spent on local and arterial streets than in any other community in the County - $710,000 (see related article and map).
- The high priority goal this fiscal year of moving forward with an aggressive economic development and redevelopment program has resulted in multiple activities on multiple fronts.
- A plan for enhancing fire and life safety services – supplementing our paid-call staff with permanent staff through a service-sharing relationship with Arroyo Grande – has been approved by the City Council.
- The Grover Beach Visioning Project – involving three separate community workshops – was approved by the City Council to help devise a "road map" for future growth and development within the community (see related article).
- Roughly $380,000 was expended to improve park and recreational facilities throughout the community – 17 different projects have been completed.
- The Boardwalk connecting Grover Beach to Pismo Beach is nearing completion, as is the West Grand Avenue Traffic Calming Project between 8th and 11th Streets.
- Three different Blue Ribbon Committees – parks & recreation, planning and building, and public safety - have been meeting to improve service delivery approaches in their respective areas, while establishing equitable fee-for-service schedules to reduce General Fund subsidies.
