Time flies! The City's Fiscal Year 2005 begins on July 1, 2004. The City Council's big challenge is to keep the momentum from the past few years moving forward, while being mindful of budget impacts from the State.
One of the early steps in the budget process is to define goals for the upcoming year and prioritize supporting activities. On March 29, 2004, the City Council had its first detailed discussion of FY 05 goals, in conjunction with receiving a Report Card on current goals and objectives.
The results, which were confirmed by the City Council on May 3, 2004, include five main goals and 24 supporting activities. These goals and the key supporting activities include:
- Enhance Public Services – with enhancing fire safety service delivery as the top priority of four activities under this goal;
- Improve Public Infrastructure – with development of a water resource strategy, update of the storm drainage master plan and local street maintenance as the top three priorities out of six activities;
- Strengthen Economic Vitality – with four supporting activities;
- Manage Growth and Development – with eight supporting activities; and
- Enhance Communications – both internally at the staff and Council level, and externally with the public.
All of these goals and supporting activities will be incorporated into the FY 05 Budget. If you would like to see a comprehensive listing in advance of the budget workshops, please come by City Hall. A copy will be posted on the City's website after the adoption of the FY 05 Budget.
