A Simple Change that Could Change Your Life

When you turn your clocks back on October 31st marking the end of Daylight Savings Time, make a life saving change in your household and change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Eighty percent of all civilian fire-related deaths are a result of home fires, and on average, nearly three children die every day in these fires. By providing an early warning and critical extra seconds to escape, smoke alarms double your family's chance of getting out of a home fire alive.

Smoke detectors should be located in the hallway outside bedrooms and/or the living area. Test smoke alarms regularly by pushing the test button, plan escape routes with the entire family, and keep a fire safety kit that includes working flashlights and fresh batteries.

For more information on smoke detectors, please contact the Grover Beach Fire Department Administration Office at (805) 473-4590.
