“Public service allows people to impact the lives of not only your neighbors but people throughout our community,” said Wendi Sims, Grover Beach City Clerk. “Running for elected office or serving on a commission is a tremendous opportunity to serve the Grover Beach community.”

The City Council is comprised of five (5) members elected at large to represent the city. City Council meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month, with special meetings or workshops as needed. Elected officials receive a stipend of $600 per month for the office of Council Member and $750 per month for the office of Mayor. Additionally, the Mayor and Council Members attend various committee and board meetings throughout the County to which they are assigned, as well as represent the City at numerous functions. Additional stipends and reporting requirements apply for serving on certain outside agency boards.

The office of Mayor is directly-elected for a two-year term, while the office of Council Member is a four year term, with terms expiring at staggered intervals. During this coming November’s General Election, there will be two (2) seats for the office of City Council Member and one (1) seat for the office of Mayor that will be up for election. The nomination period for Grover Beach City Council candidates begins Monday, July 13, 2020 and runs through Friday, August 7, 2020.

To be eligible to become a candidate, you must be a resident of and registered voter in the City of Grover Beach. The filing fee for nomination papers is $25, plus an optional deposit towards the printing of a Candidate’s Statement of Qualifications in the sample ballot. Candidates must also file a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) and certain Campaign Statements as required by state law.
