Grover Beach, CA – In July 2020, the Grover Beach City Council adopted a resolution calling for the placement of a 1.0% Transaction and Use Tax (sales tax) on the November 2020 ballot. The San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder has confirmed the designation of the measure as Measure F-20.

“The Council unanimously voted to place Measure F-20 on the November ballot, which will enable Grover Beach voters to decide whether to invest further in projects and services that matter to our community,” said Grover Beach Mayor Jeff Lee. “If approved, Measure F-20 would provide a reliable source of revenue for our community for maintaining and enhancing Grover Beach’s quality of life."

If passed by Grover Beach voters, Measure F-20 would generate approximately $1.8 million annually to help Grover Beach invest in projects and services identified as important in a previous community survey. Every penny of Measure F-20 revenues would stay local to fund general City projects and services. These include underfunded community needs like repairing major streets such as West Grand Avenue; adding miles of sidewalk to make the City more accessible; providing ongoing economic development assistance to support local businesses; and expanding essential public safety and emergency services. Without the revenue from Measure F-20, the City would not be able to address these and other identified community needs and priorities that the public has said are important.

The 1.0% sales tax would apply only to certain goods and services within Grover Beach, such as restaurants, bars, gasoline and retail stores like clothing stores. It would not apply to most groceries or the services of a doctor, dentist or attorney. All shoppers in Grover Beach would pay one more cent per dollar on certain purchases including visitors who generate 40% of sales tax revenues.

“This fall, residents will have a choice through Measure F-20 to invest additional funds to meet community needs in Grover Beach,” said City Manager Matthew Bronson. “We are working to provide information and answer questions to inform the community’s decision about Measure F-20.”

Grover Beach residents will need to register to vote by October 19, 2020 to vote on Measure F-20. Sample ballot books with more information will be mailed to homes in late September 2020 with vote by mail ballots expected to be sent to residents at the beginning of October 2020. The general election will take place on November 3, 2020.
