The Grover Beach Summer Concert Series is back Sunday afternoons from 3 PM to 6 PM, July 4 through August 16! The community is invited to enjoy a variety of live bands at Ramona Garden Park at 993 Ramona Avenue. Compliance with all applicable state and local health guidelines for events will be required as part of the concerts.
“We are thrilled to bring back the beloved tradition of summer concerts this year,” said Grover Beach Parks and Recreation Director Kathy Petker. “After pausing in-person events in 2020 given public health needs, we are eager to safely resume in-person events with our community. Gathering to enjoy music at Ramona Garden Park is one of our favorite ways to celebrate the summer season in Grover Beach.”
The series lineup features bands from far and wide who will perform a range of nostalgic, upbeat tunes for all to enjoy spanning genres including classic rock, folk, pop and soul:
July 4: Unfinished Business - ‘60s Rock N’ Roll & Soul
A Grover Beach favorite, Unfinished Business aims to bring back the excitement of ‘60s live Rock N’ Roll. They specialize in the best and most popular music of all time: think The Beatles, Rolling Stones, British Invasion, The Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Motown. The band also performs a selection of iconic hits from the '50s and '70s by artists including The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, and many more. After setting aside his music career to raise a family, band leader Ed Miller returned to the stage to take care of some “unfinished business:” performing the energetic ’60s music enjoyed by audiences of all ages. Rounding out the Unfinished Business lineup are Bill Wolf on drums and vocals, Mike Dias on bass and vocals, and Thomas "Toes" Cuffe on Keyboards.
July 11: Stevie Nicks Illusion - Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac Tribute
Known as the most authentic sounding Fleetwood Mac tribute to date, Stevie Nicks Illusion will bring world class musicianship and a sound that is pure magic to Grover Beach. Diana Grace, Laurie Richardson, Monty Sommer, Rich Smith and Jeff Bennett capture the true essence of the band with stellar vocals and instrumentals. The band showcases the best of Fleetwood Mac plus specially selected songs from Stevie Nicks' solo career, complete with duets with Tom Petty and Don Henley.
July 25: Dark Desert Highway - Eagles Tribute & Classic Rock
Having formed the classic rock cover band Black Taxi while still in grade school, lead vocalist and percussionist Kevin Celi tapped older brother Steve and lifelong friends Kevin and Alfie to join forces while he began a rather short career on drums, eventually settling for smooth baritone vocals like his idol Glenn Frey. Steve, a vocalist and rhythm guitarist, has been an Eagle-maniac since he was seven years old and has always dreamed of singing like his idol, Don Henley. As luck would have it, not only does he bear an uncanny resemblance to his favorite Eagle – he has a matching tone as well!
August 1: Careless Whisper - 80’s Tribute & Pop N’ Rock
If you like big hair, crazy fashions, and the best ‘80s rock and pop music, you’re going to love Careless Whisper. Experience, or re-experience, a bump of the ultimate tribute to ‘80s rock and dance music! Travelling to Grover Beach from the Bay Area, McKenna Ray, MC Jackie, Nikki Stixxx, Juan DeVille and Sir Sheldon will perform a never-ending stream of everyone's favorite hits for all to enjoy.
August 8: Scratch - Rock N’ Roll
Scratch has been playing professionally in the Central Coast area for about six years, entertaining crowds at private parties, the SLO Farmer's Market and some of the many wonderful venues all over the region. Collectively, they have over 40 years of experience in original and cover band music. They are “the relief to the ever-present itch for good ole’ Rock N’ Roll!”
August 15: Rock Odyssey - Classic Rock cover songs from the ‘70s, ‘80s & ‘90s
A local assembly of musicians who love to play classic rock tunes joined the vision of band lead David Apodac to build a group that can recreate that authentic sound. David has toured internationally and has formed this group to play the songs we all enjoy from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s: songs from Rick Springfield, Journey, Tom Petty, Pat Benatar, Bad Company, The Cars, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, AC/DC, just to name a few. Based in Arroyo Grande, California, Rock Odyssey loves to entertain all over the Central Coast.
The Parks and Recreation Department reminds attendees to use sun protection and bring their own beach/lawn chairs. Follow the City of Grover Beach on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Nextdoor for updates and more information about this year’s Sizzlin’ Summer Concert Series.
