[ARCHIVED] Grover Beach Police Department to Host National Night Out in Conjunction W/Playground Grand Opening

Continuing an annual tradition, the Grover Beach Police Department will host a community recognition for National Night Out in conjunction with the ribbon-cutting for the new 16th Street Park playground. The events will take place on Tuesday, August 3 from 6 to 9 PM at the park located at 1700 Mentone Avenue.

National Night Out, observed across the country annually on the first Tuesday of August, is centered around building relationships between police and the communities they serve to foster safer and more caring communities. The Grover Beach Police Department has hosted events for the Grover Beach community on National Night Out for several years.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” said John Peters, Grover Beach Chief of Police. “Both our police officers and the residents we serve always have a great time participating in National Night Out festivities.”

The 2021 event will be one of the most exciting yet, featuring food, music, gardening, a reptile petting zoo, raffles and even photo opportunities with live Storm Troopers! Most importantly, community members will have the opportunity to get to know our dedicated public safety officers.

The Parks and Recreation Department will also take part in National Night Out with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the brand-new 16th Street Park Playground which was opened in mid-July. The new playground is treehouse-themed and features inclusive, innovative play elements for all children to enjoy.

“Opening this new playground is incredibly rewarding for us as a City,” said Grover Beach City Manager Matthew Bronson. “It’s wonderful to see families so excited to enjoy this new playground and I thank the City Council for their leadership in advancing this project and our staff team in getting it done.”

The grand opening will include a ribbon cutting ceremony with City Council and Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission members.

The entire community is invited to join. More information about the event will be posted on the City’s website and social media platforms over the next week.
