At the May 22 City Council meeting, Council adopted a resolution to authorize the display of a commemorative flag to celebrate Pride Month at City Hall during the month of June. With this adoption, Council has directed staff to fly the Pride Flag as a symbol of support for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) community.

“We believe in creating a community that celebrates and embraces diversity. The adoption of this flag resolution shares a powerful message of the City’s support for our LGBTQ+ community,” said Grover Beach Mayor Karen Bright. “Grover Beach is a City where everyone is welcome and respected.”

Since 2020, the City has flown the Pride Flag during Pride Month in June as a way to recognize and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in Grover Beach. The newly adopted resolution solidifies the City’s flag policy, established on May 8, that allows the display of commemorative flags at City Hall upon resolution of the City Council. The flag policy is intended to reflect the dignity of the flags flown at City-owned or City-maintained facilities, as well as the significance of City Hall as an inclusive gathering place and a local symbol of government and democracy. The City will fly the Pride flag on June 1, and it will fly throughout the duration of the month.

“This resolution solidifies our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where all residents, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feel valued and respected,” said Grover Beach City Manager Matt Bronson. “We want Grover Beach to be a City where all can thrive and express who they are.”

The City remains dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusivity and equality within the community. With the resolution now in place, the Pride Flag will fly during June alongside the United States Flag, the State of California Flag, and the City of Grover Beach Flag, serving as a symbol of support and solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.
